The Autobiography of Mark Twain — A collection of memories and reflections that Twain began assembling in 1870 and continued developing through writing and dictation over several decades. In 1906–1907, he published Chapters from My Autobiography in twenty-five installments in the North American Review. Much of the material remained unpublished during his lifetime, in part because of its private and candid contents and his wishes about publication. After his death, editors selected and rearranged the published and unpublished writings in different ways. A later three-volume scholarly edition was produced by the Mark Twain Project at the University of California, Berkeley. This Standard Ebooks edition is based on the collection compiled by Albert Bigelow Paine and published by Harper & Brothers in 1924.
