Das Schloss

Franz Kafka

K. arrives in a snowbound village claiming that the castle authorities have summoned him as a land surveyor, yet his appointment is both disputed and left unresolved. Amid contradictory messages, intermediaries, and inaccessible officials, he seeks recognition of his status and a place within the closed community. Kafka’s unfinished novel explores bureaucracy, power, alienation, and the desire to belong in a world that is matter-of-fact and oppressively absurd at once.
