In this political satire, subtitled A Fantasy, a secluded narrator encounters the transformed public mood after the July Revolution. A professor carries him on a winged steed to a Walpurgis Night on the Brocken, where liberty, constitutions, the press, and public opinion become grotesque players in a pageant of empty slogans and political opportunism.
