Agnes Grey is the youngest daughter of a pastor. Her family finds itself in a financial bind and to help them, Agnes decides to become a governess. Her time with two families will reveal to her that a governess's position is not the easiest. Anne, the youngest of the Brontë sisters, drew on her own experience as a governess to write this first novel in which she denounces the educational deficiencies of children in certain wealthy families.
