Madame Bovary
Gustave Flaubert
Charles Bovary, after completing his studies at a provincial high school, established himself as a health officer and married a rich widow. When she died, Charles married a young woman, Emma Rouault, raised in a convent, living on the farm with her father (a rich farmer, a patient of the young doctor). Emma lets herself be seduced by Charles and marries him. Fascinated by his romantic readings, she dreams of a new life, in the company of her new husband.
