Harry Potter spends a miserable summer with the Dursleys. On his birthday, a house-elf named Dobby appears, warning him not to return to Hogwarts. Despite Dobby's efforts to keep him away by intercepting letters and causing havoc, Harry is determined to go back. His friend Ron and his brothers rescue him in their flying car and take him to their home, the Burrow, where Harry enjoys a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Later, Harry, the Weasleys, and Hermione head to Diagon Alley for school supplies, where Harry encounters Draco Malfoy and his father, Lucius. Harry accidentally ends up with a mysterious diary that holds more than it seems. Despite various warnings and strange occurrences, Harry is resolute about returning to Hogwarts for another year.
