How XP and leagues work

Earn XP for meaningful practice. Your weekly XP determines your place in the league.

Total XP

Your all-time XP shows how much learning effort you have put in. It does not reset.

Weekly XP

This is the XP used in your league. It starts fresh each week, so everyone gets a new chance.

A2

Language level

Your CEFR level is separate. It reflects the words you retain, while XP reflects your effort.

How you earn XP

You earn XP for meaningful activity throughout Lingard:

  • Practising words and completing exercises. Harder words and reviews that are due can be worth more.
  • Reading while actually moving through a book or article.
  • Answering comprehension questions correctly on your first attempt.
  • Finishing reading material and completing daily goals.
Fair practice earns more

Repeating the same card, reviewing too early, or leaving the reader open without progress will not build XP quickly. Marking a word as “known” does not earn XP.

How the league works

  1. Sign in to join and see your league. Guests do not appear in the leaderboard.
  2. You compete with up to 30 learners in the same league. Places are ranked by weekly XP.
  3. When the week ends, the top 7 move up and the bottom 5 move down. There is no promotion above Diamond and no relegation below Bronze.
  4. Weekly XP returns to zero for the new competition. Your total XP stays with you.
10 leagues, from Bronze to Diamond Bronze → Silver → Gold → Sapphire → Ruby → Emerald → Amethyst → Pearl → Obsidian → Diamond

Your profile in the league

The leaderboard shows your display name, @handle, and a system avatar. Your real avatar appears only with your permission, and you can hide yourself from the leaderboard in Profile settings.

The simple version

Practise regularly, earn XP, and move as high as you can before the weekly reset. XP measures effort — not your language ability.
