Bank clerk Josef K. wakes one morning to find himself arrested by an authority that never states a specific charge, although he remains free to go to work. Moving among hidden courtrooms, lawyers, officials, and enigmatic intermediaries, he tries to understand a process whose rules stay beyond reach.
