This volume contains two crime stories by Hans Hyan. In the title story, detective Mark Welton comes to Hamburg searching for his friend, Commissioner Hans Dammann, who vanished while hunting escaped bank robber Georg Karsten through the city’s underworld taverns. “Der falsche Schein” moves to Berlin, where police agent Robert Seibald traces a series of counterfeit fifty-mark notes and his resourceful fiancée Emmy becomes involved in the inquiry. Both tales combine disguise, pursuit, and early police work.
