Krambambuli
Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach
Gamekeeper Hopp acquires an exceptional hunting dog from a wandering forestry assistant in exchange for twelve bottles of cherry brandy called Krambambuli, which gives the dog his name. Patience and training create a deep bond, but when the former owner returns as a poacher, the animal is caught between two loyalties. Ebner-Eschenbach explores love, obedience, ownership, responsibility, and human judgments of animal faithfulness.
