Die Zauberei im Herbste

Josef Freiherr von Eichendorff

Lost while hunting in an autumn forest, the knight Ubaldo meets a strangely dressed hermit living in a mountain cave. Invited to Ubaldo’s castle, the stranger recounts a youthful love and an enchanted autumn palace where memory, dream, and reality blur together. Eichendorff’s early Romantic tale turns the forest, seasonal splendor, temptation, and passing time into a haunting meditation on illusion, longing, friendship, and guilt.
