Many people look at their phone in bed: one more video, one more message. But your phone can be the reason you sleep badly. Here is why, and what you can do.

Bright Screens

Your brain uses light to know if it is day or night. In the evening, the bright light from a screen can tell your brain that it is still day. Then it is harder to feel sleepy.

A Busy Brain

Messages, news and videos keep your brain busy and excited. A funny video or a stressful message can wake you up when you want to relax.

Lost Time

Many people say, "Just five more minutes." But five minutes often become one hour! This is time that you could spend sleeping.

What You Can Do

Stop using your phone 30 to 60 minutes before bed. Charge it outside your bedroom and use a normal alarm clock. Turn on night mode in the evening, and read a paper book instead.

Your phone will still be there in the morning. Give your brain a rest and enjoy a good night's sleep!
