In Season 1, Rue Bennett struggles with her return to a normal life after rehab. She wrestles with her addiction and forms a bond with her friend Jules Vaughn, who is new in town. Rue faces challenges maintaining her sobriety under the pressures of high school and her complex relationship with Jules. At the same time, the series also delves into the lives of other students, such as Nate Jacobs, who hides his vulnerability behind a facade of aggression and manipulation, and Maddy Perez, who is enmeshed in a toxic relationship with Nate. Each character navigates questions of identity, trauma, and the struggle for survival in their own way, resulting in a deeply emotional and turbulent exploration of their lives.
