Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows on Netflix. It's about a group of friends in Hawkins, a small town in the US state of Indiana, in the 1980s. Strange things happen there: a boy disappears, and a girl with special powers appears. Here are some facts you may not know.
Two Brothers, One Idea
The show was created by twin brothers, Matt and Ross Duffer. They loved films and books from the 1980s, and they wanted to make a show that felt like them. At first, the story took place in Montauk, a real town near New York, and the show was called Montauk too.
Fifteen Times No
Before Netflix said yes, the brothers showed their idea to about fifteen TV channels. They all said no. Many people thought that a story with children in the main roles would not work. They were wrong! The first season came out in July 2016, and it was a huge hit.
Eleven's Hair and Her Waffles
Millie Bobby Brown plays Eleven, a girl with special powers. She was only eleven years old when she shaved her head for the role. In the show, Eleven loves Eggo waffles, and after the show came out, more people started buying them.
A Name from a Game
In the first episode, the boys play the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons. Later, when they meet a real monster, they give it the name of a monster from the game: the Demogorgon.
An Old Song at Number One
In 2022, the fourth season used the song "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush. The song came out in 1985, but after the show, millions of young people started listening to it. It went to number one in the UK, 37 years after it first came out.
The fifth and final season came out in three parts at the end of 2025, and the last episode came out on December 31. After almost ten years, the story of Hawkins was over.
