Harry Potter spends a tense summer with the Dursleys, feeling isolated. One afternoon, he and Dudley are attacked by Dementors, forcing Harry to use magic to save them, resulting in his temporary expulsion from Hogwarts. Rescued by the Order of the Phoenix, he is taken to their headquarters, where he reunites with friends and learns of their mission to fight Voldemort. Despite the Ministry's denial of Voldemort's return, Harry and his friends form "Dumbledore's Army" to learn practical defence. Harry's disturbing visions of Voldemort's plans lead Dumbledore to arrange Occlumency lessons with Snape, which prove to be challenging. Harry's visions culminate in a false vision of Sirius in danger, leading to a battle at the Ministry where Sirius is killed and a prophecy about Harry and Voldemort is revealed. Dumbledore explains that Harry must ultimately defeat Voldemort. The year ends with Harry grieving but determined to fight Voldemort, knowing he is not alone.
