Harry Potter spends a miserable summer with the Dursleys. On his birthday, a house-elf named Dobby appears, warning him not to return to Hogwarts. Despite Dobby's efforts to dissuade him by intercepting letters and causing chaos, Harry is determined to return. His friend Ron and his brothers rescue him in their flying car and take him to their home, the Burrow, where Harry finds a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Later, Harry, the Weasleys, and Hermione go to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies, where Harry meets Draco Malfoy and his father, Lucius. Harry accidentally ends up with a mysterious diary that holds more than meets the eye. Despite various warnings and strange occurrences, Harry is determined to return to Hogwarts for another year.
